Yvonne Maupin Whitlock is an educator, storyteller, and faith-driven woman whose life has been shaped by gratitude, compassion, and family. Born in Newport News, Virginia, and a lifelong resident of Hampton, Virginia, Yvonne has devoted her life to teaching, nurturing, and inspiring others both inside and outside the classroom.
A proud graduate of Norfolk State University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and Hampton University with a Master’s degree in Special Education, Yvonne taught first grade for thirty years in Newport News, Virginia. After retirement, she continued to serve her community as a GED instructor for women inmates and a Drug Court teacher, helping others find strength, education, and purpose through second chances.
Yvonne was married to her beloved husband, Lee Andrew Whitlock, for fifty beautiful years. Their partnership was built on love, laughter, and faith. Together, they raised their son, Michael, whose achievements—from earning degrees at George Mason University, Harvard University, and the University of Virginia—remain a lasting source of pride and joy.
Writing Reflections of a Grateful Heart: Memories for Life was a labor of love and remembrance.
